To mark International Women’s Day, Africa’s largest airline group Ethiopian Airlines will launch a 5 weekly flights to Buenos Aires, Argentina as of March 8th 2018.
“We are all the more happy that the flights will be launched on 8 March, International Women’s Day. To mark this important occasion and as part of our commitment of mainstreaming gender into our core business, the inaugural flight on 8 March will be an All Women Operated Flight. ” – Ethiopian Airlines.
“From the check-in counter all the way to the cockpit, you will be in the capable hands of women aviation professionals as we launch our service to Buenos Aires on March 08 with an all women operated flight. We want to dedicate this special flight for ‘the African girl’ to inspire her to believe in her dreams.” – reads the statement on their website.
Women will handle all aspects of the flight: planning, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control. The whole entire flight operations will be handled by women, from check-in counters, boarding gate assistance and the baggage handlers.
The flight itself will also be an all female affair from the flight crew, both relief and active crew as well as the entire cabin crew. This is to show the growth of women’s impact in the industry and their capabilities to handle their own in a male dominated industry.
Its not a first for Ethiopian Airlines as they have already had flights to Lagos, Nigeria Dublin, Ireland and Bangkok, Thailand also operated by an all female crew. Passengers on some of the flights had great praises for the crew when they learnt it was an all female crew upon landing and that they had been a part of history.
